Ground Marble and Ceramic Tile Plants Open in Kaluga Region

Two new plants were launched in Borovsk District on September 4: the OMYA URAL LLC ground marble production plant in Vorsino Industrial Park and the FREELITE JSC ceramic tile manufacturing complex (CF Systems Ceramics of the Future trademark) in Balabanovo. The official opening ceremony of the OMYA URAL plant was attended by Swiss Ambassador in Russia Pierre Helg.

OMYA concern is a leading global manufacturer of industrial minerals – primarily, fillers and pigments based on calcium carbonate and dolomite, and also a major distributor of various chemical products. The concern was established in Oftinger (Switzerland) in 1884 and now has more than 100 plants in 50 countries.

At the opening ceremony, Pierre Helg remarked that the opening of a new plant in Russia was a new stage in the development of cooperation between Switzerland and Kaluga Region. “The reputation of Kaluga Region in Switzerland is very high”, he said.

On the same day FREELITE opened a ceramic granite tile production complex. The annual capacity of the first stage of the RUR 2.3 billion plant is 5 million sq.m per. The plant created more than 300 new jobs. The second stage of the plant is planned to be commissioned in 2015. The plant will operate modern equipment supplied by Italian manufacturers SACMI, Ancora and CMF that has no analogues in Russia or the CIS.

FREELITE JSC Chairman of the Board Alexei Boldyrev said: “We are confident that we will find distribution markets both in Kaluga Region and throughout Russia. What’s most important though is that regardless of current political conditions, we are continuing our cooperation with Italy”.
